You may have stumbled on this fan site by accident, and are wondering what exactly a Regency is. Well, the Regency is a subdivision of the larger Romance genre, and is so-called because these books are all set in a specific window of time, roughly the early 1800s to the 1820s. During these years, Mad King George the III (that tyrant of the American colonists) can no longer rule and his son, George IV, is named Regent of England. His Regency was a distinct era- with its own modes of dress, entertainment, and sensibility. As Romance Books go, Regencies typically have little to no sex in them, a reflection on the original Regency writer, Jane Austen. We Regency fans are as in love with the times as we are with the characters.
More to come.
